Nasi Goreng

One of the best nasi goreng i ever had! when i saw the menu at the One World Hotel’s Cinnamon Restaurant, KL, i almost fainted. Their Nasi Goreng cost RM38! and i got a bit agitated when the food took 25 mins to arrive!! as they always say, a hungry man is an angry man. fire was coming out of my 七孔 already. Finally when the food came, i was surprised by the varieties on the plate and the taste was good. the simple fried rice, isn’t too oily and has got several taste in it. the chicken cubes was deep fried before redang stir fried. this, the outside layer has a very fragrant smell and the meet inside is very soft.dsc02438.jpg

Simply the Best Yong Tau Fu

My friends all know that even though I can eat everything, I don’t usually say that a particular food is great. So when I praise a food stall or restaurant, it’s usually very good! I happened to be at Amoy St sometime back and was walking pass a Yong Tau Fu (酿豆腐) stall. There was only 1 youngster having his dinner in the shop. I didn’t think of it as anything great but when I walked closer, I noticed that the man was really enjoying and savoring every single bit of the yong tau fu. Out of curiosity, I went into the small shop and handpicked a few pieces of yong tau fu from the triple-layered rack.

From afar, I noticed a few big bowls of meat sauce being cooled on the table. That was the secret to the great yong tau fu here. The concentrated meat sauce was added to every plate of yong tau fu (which you can choose between deep fried or boiled) and you don’t need to have the usual sweet sauce to dip in. The fillings of the yong tau fu was generous and more importantly, the fish filling was crunchy, springy and great at taste. And the thick bee hoon noodle that comes with it also has the meat sauce and you can easily slurp the entire bowl of noodle down you throat.

This is definitely a recommended makan place to visit.

Green Tea Latte @ Starbucks

just finished a meeting and drinking one of the best Green Tea Latte i have ever had!

This drink is simply great. It’s milky enough to be a latte and yet still has the dash of green tea in it which makes it simply great! Of course, if the Barista can give this coffee a little more decor or presentation, it would even be better.

Price: S$6.20 (Tall/Small)

Location: Any Starbucks in Singapore

Taste: 4/5

Presentation: 3/5

lunch @ Nobu Shabu

wordpress.com was down for like what.. 2 days!! so angry. i was typing an entry and almost finishing and couldn’t post it.. then i lost the entire entry. sigh…

i just got back from Bangkok at 1030pm (Singapore time). This trip has been fruitful for my work. And of course for my tummy too. I had lunch with Eu at Nobu Shabu (Central World 7th Floor) and enjoyed the Taiwanese-Japanese Shabu Shabu. The dining experience started right at the entrance when we were warmly welcomed by the staff. Everyone was so excited to see us. Maybe because we were the only customers in the restaurant and they were bored waiting around without anything to do! The ambience is nice, and I could see that the owner had a touch of chinese sense in the decoration and menu and food!

dsc01836.jpg

§ Nice and cosy interior design

Apparently the owner is local Thai, whose wife is a Taiwanese. Thus the food has a dash of Taiwanese/Chinese influence.

§ totally enjoying the meal

§ just look at the marble in the beef!!!

§ doesn’t this look familiar? yeah. it’s a copy of the Dragon Roll from Sushi Tei! Nobu simply copied the dish style, presentation, taste(not anyway close) and NAME!!

Dinner @ Sun with Moon

It has always been a great experience dining at Sun with Moon @ Wheelock Place. Upon reaching early at 7pm, I wanted to make a reservation for 2 person but was “told off” nicely by the Manager that they could no longer take in anymore reservation as the restaurant and only walk-in customers are entertained.

Sigh.. after hanging around for about another 10 mins, I decided to proceed into the restaurant to wait for M.M.K. to reach. I was shown to the tiny 2 seater table initially and i requested for sofa-seats table. The kind waitress told me that she’ll try her best to get me one the soonest there’s one available. And true enough, after about 10mins, i got the sofa-seats table! hurray for their great started service.

We were overwhelmed by the nice menu, with great and enticing pictures, which were constantly tantalising our hungry stomach and drooling mouth throughout the whole time we were trying to decide what to order. We ordered too many dishes in the end, and I had a hard time stuffing them down my throat!!(she wasn’t so helpful in that lor!! haha…)

We had okonomiyaki, meat yakiniku (which is fun coz you get to bbq them yourself), rainbow roll (this isn’t that great… try the exciting and delicious rolls which Sushi Tei offers instead), scallop and golden mushroom wrapped with beef and cooked in teriyaki sauce (this one is FANTASTIC. it’s a must try.) and many more other food.

For the drinks, they have a wide variety of interesting and refreshing drinks available, even healthy vinegar mocktails are available!

Curry Rice

I have been in search of good curry rice recently and there have been reviews that Curry Favor at Stamford House is good. I tried it during a food tasting session with my colleague and i would have to say that the curry is not bad. The main dishes generally tast good. But the price is way too high for the amount and quality of food!! 2 person and we spent about $70 in total

Chocolate Therapy

If you are feeling down, if you are feeling romantic, if you are feeling fun, try out Max Brenner’s Chocolate Cafe. Just over 2 weeks, i was there twice. The ambient of this cafe is nice. It’s quite small and can only seat about 35 people. So if you are going in a big group, better make bookings. Food is nice… they are all chocolate!!! what do you expect?!?!

if you intend to try out their fondue or dessert after dinner, forget it. Skip the dinner and go straight for the desserts and fondue here. They are enough to fill up your stomach as the chocolate are rich. The fruits that comes with the fondue are also full of fiber and if you are not filled, their raisins and marshmallow with choc dip is sufficient to fill you.

Was at this place for the 2nd time with a group of friends. We share many items and the bill came up to be about $15 per pax. A little pricy for desserts, but it’s almost like a dinner since we were all hungry when we went into the cafe, filled when we came out!

Only complaint is that this place’s service is ultimately bad! Water are not refilled when empty, even when i stand up and start waving for water, the service staff are still blind!! And they missed out several items in the food. Like my gummie bears for the marshmallow crepe, orange peels for the sweddish crepe etc.

But I’ll still be back there coz it very nice and cozy ambient. I just need to ignore the service staff. At my first visit, I even take the dirty cloth to clean the table myself, and clear the dirty dishes and cups left used by the previous customers.

Dinner @ Marutama Ramen

Just last Wednesday, I was having dinner with Candice and “Denise” at the always-got-queue Marutama Ramen @ Central (the one at clark quay). I have been thinking about this shop’s ramen for weeks!! Never really get to try it before this because there’s always a long queue and i HATE to queue for food! (even though my company’s restaurant always got queue also… simply because food is great)

The shop is quite small… maybe about 30 to 35 sitter only. There isn’t any table seats so 3 of us has to get the counter seat. Which is interesting as it seems as though we are eating in a ramen shop in Japan. Each of us ordered a different ramen, Marutama Ramen, Marutama Aka Ramen and something nut ramen!

dsc01548.jpg

* Marutama Ramen with Charshu and Egg

Initially I found the ramen weird as it’s using thin noodle unlike the usual thicker ramen we get at other shops. it’s almost the the 面仔 from the chinese noodle store! the best part of the ramen is actually the tasty egg and stew pork! Look at the self-explanatory photo below. The meat is so soft that it actually melts in your mouth. It contains quite a bit of fat but ain’t that oily. The finishing in the mouth in wonderful. And the egg is not a full hard boiled egg. It’s yolk is still soft. Tasted like it’s soaked in shoyu overnight or something.

*This is the one i ate. It’s a little spicy. soup is nice. The Stew Pork is simply wonderful!

Lunch @ 達屋(Tatsuya)

I was at Tatsuya for lunch on Thursday… had really great sushi set lunch. Chef Ronnie was telling me that the sushi is going to be special and great. Indeed, the Akagai Maki was something which I have never tried. The outside layer of seaweed nori was crispy, rice inside was nicely vinegerated, and the kappa(japanese cucumber) inside with the akagai shellfish which was crunchy… made a perfect combination of what a maki roll should be.

the other 6 pieces of nigiri sushi was simply wonderful. Especially the maguro sushi, which almost melted in my mouth. Classic 2 pcs of futo california maki was great compliment to the colorful plate of sushi.
